Happy Friday, Indivisibles!

It’s time for our penultimate pre-election events post, alerting you to all of the Indivisible Somerville activity going on over the next week. Here’s what we’ve got on deck as we ramp up for the midterms:

THIS WEEKEND

Saturday, 10/27 – Join our For the Win! team to canvass for Jared Golden in the swing district of ME-02. Our weekly canvassing trip is set to hit the road to Lewiston per usual, departing from Porter Square Books at 10 AM. Use this link to sign up for a spot!

A note – the final canvassing trip on Saturday 11/3 will depart at 8:30 AM, so mark your calendars for an extended day of activism! Use this link to sign up for the November 3 canvass. Please contact Kristin (kmannke17@gmail.com) with any canvassing questions!

And in case you need some inspiration to hit the streets in this chilly weather, here’s a video that Indivisible Brooklyn made with Alexandra Ocasio Cortez about the importance of canvassing!! This work MATTERS.

Saturday, 10/27 – We’re hosting a Benefit Concert!! From 8-10pm, we’ll be enjoying the music of Ron Israel and The Lied To’s at the Armory for the Arts on Highland Ave. They’ll be performing a range of protest and social justice-inspired music in the folk/roots genre. We’re really looking forward to a lovely evening of community and mingling with our fellow friends and activists. This promises to be a nice break from the midterms work, and a wonderful chance to reconnect and re-energize. And best of all, the proceeds will go entirely to Indivisible Somerville! Tickets are $10, available at the door or online here. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.

Sunday, 10/28 – Phonebanking with For the Win! for Jared Golden at Activist Afternoons. EXTENDED HOURS!! 3-6pm at WorkBar (45 Prospect Street) in Central Square. Stop by anytime to see me, Ginger, and Kristin and phonebank for this very flippable seat! Bring a fully-charged laptop and phone (and bring your chargers!), and invite a friend! If you have never phone-banked before, we are happy to train you.

NEXT WEEK

Monday, 10/29 – Phonebanking for the Yes on 3 ballot question, 6-8pm at the Somerville Public Library. This is an incredibly important initiative!! We are facing the first-ever statewide popular vote on protections for transgender people from discrimination. The referendum would repeal our state law that protects transgender people from discrimination in public places, including restaurants, stores, and doctors’ offices. A “yes” vote on Question 3 keeps the current law as it is. Join us to make calls to Massachusetts voters encouraging them to vote “yes” to protect transgender rights!! Thanks to Ginger for organizing. Please sign up at this link. Facebook event here.

Tuesday, 10/30 – Our final phonebank to flip the PA State Senate! We’ll be making calls for PA-16 candidate Mark Pinsley, a progressive Democrat whose race could determine the balance of power in the PA State Senate. Flippable has identified Mark’s race as one of the 20 omst important nationally in their effort to strategically flip legislative chambers in the states with the worst gerrymandering and voter suppression. Ben has generously offered to host at his home near Davis (13 Edmunds Street, Cambridge) from 6-8pm. Facebook event here. We’ve been a huge help to this campaign and are looking forward to ending with a strong showing of volunteer support!

And hey, before you go, take a look at this, our October calendar:

It is clear how hard we have been working for the last month (and more!) to flip seats, contact voters, and make our voices heard. Look how many freakin’ events we’ve done!! I am so, so grateful for all of you who have been putting in the work. It is heartening to see how many of us care about changing our community and our country for the better. THANK YOU for reading, for caring, for calling, for canvassing, for all that you do! You make this organization the productive, friendly, hardworking group that it is.

Please join us on Saturday night to celebrate our efforts – it would be lovely to see more of you in person and in a social setting!! We like to have fun too! 🙂

Yours in community,
Erin
